Young People's Engagement Event

2nd February 2018
Today, Mrs Hopkins and school councillors Charlie, Jude, Lizzie and Elspeth visited PHGS to take part in the Outer North West Young People’s Voice Event 2018. During the morning, the children found out a little about what Leeds City Council does, met Leeds City councillors and listened to inspirational speakers from the area. The final activities involved our children working alongside children from other primary schools to spend a pot of money (£48,000!) for children’s activities across Leeds. The groups had to decide from a range of activities what they would most like the money to be spent on. The children also had to come up with a new project and present their idea to other groups, then vote on their favourite project. Another pot of money was set aside to get the winning idea off the ground.
This annual event is another really important opportunity for our children to see local democracy and accountability in action as part of our wider curriculum. We were very proud of their participation throughout the day and they were excellent representatives of our school.
