International Visitors

17th November 2015
We have welcomed not one but two sets of international visitors to school this week! Both visits are connected to mathematics, but in very different ways.
Firstly, on Tuesday 17th November, we welcomed Pavla Polechova, Kristina Tulisova and Katerina Skripnikova, three teachers from the Czech Republic here in the UK for 5 days on a study visit to investigate approaches to teaching mathematics in the UK. They spent time in lessons across school and meeting with Westgate staff to discuss the teaching of mathematics. Pavla, Kristina and Katerina are also visiting other schools across Leeds and Bradford during their visit this week.
Secondly, on Wednesday 18th November we were delighted to host two mathematics teachers from Shanghai. Prince Henry's is particpating in the Key Stage 3 wave of the Shanghai Mathematics project run by the Department for Education, of which we are participating in the primary wave. Dai Weiji and Wan Lyn are teaching mathematics at PHGS to classes in years 7, 8 and 9 at the moment, but they took a day out of their schedule today to visit Westgate and find out how primary schools in the UK differ from primary schools in Shanghai.
It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with teacher colleagues from across the globe this week!
