Westgate at Hope & Social gig1: the Tour of Infinite Possibility

7th June 2014
Despite the dreadful weather forecast, and fairly continual wet weather all morning, about 60 Westgate children  from years 2 to 6 were part of the Band Anyone Can Join (aka Hope & Social) on the first leg of the Tour of Infinite Possibility, part of the Yorkshire Festival in the run-up to the Tour de France later this term. They joined local groups including Moor Notes, Otley Singers, Otley Ukulele Orchestra, All Saints Primary School's orchestra, Otley Scouts and Ghyll Royd School among others, to make a band of about 150 people!

The weather did not dampen our spirits or quell the children's voices and they were fantastic as they joined in with Saints Alive, Pitching Far Too High and of course, the Yorkshire Festival song itself, The Big Wide.

Huge thanks go to the band themselves, for being so kind and such fun to work with, to Richard Sabey who taught every child to sing The Big Wide as part of their music lessons, to staff who gave up their Saturday morning to make sure the children had a great time and of course to the children who did us so proud and their families and friends who came along and not only toughed out the weather but provided a fantastically fun and supportive chunk of the audience.
