School Council

Our School Council plays a crucial role in the running of the school. Every year, each class from Y1 to Y6 choose at least 2 representatives in a democratic election who make up the School Council. While Mrs Hopkins supports the group, they have a high degree of autonomy and can make important decisions, subject to senior leadership approval.

In the last three years for example, School Council has led the following initiatives:

Fitbods (physical activities at lunch times)
Developing playtime resources for quiet activities
Improving and re-launching our School House System
Improving food at lunch-times
Fund-raising events such as Children in Need and British Heart Foundation sponsored events

In addition, councillors are often called upon to represent the school when we have visitors. School councillors have contributed staff selection procedures and accreditation visits for Healthy Schools Status and Stephen Lawrence Education Standard. They have also contributed to Otley's Neighbourhood Plan.

School Council meet on a weekly basis to discuss issues and suggestions brought up by children across school, and to plan their work for the term. Minutes are available to pupils in school.
